Cloth Hearts in Paper Boxes

Dosa paper boxes containing handsewn fabric hearts stitched with sequins.

Inspired by milagros found at the Basilica de la Soledad in Oaxaca, the milagro project began at the suggestion of Trine Ellitsgaard as a means of employment for local women. The milagros are made from the smallest of colorful scraps recycled from dosa clothing production. These one-of-a-kind hearts are handmade, hand stitched and hand beaded, by a small group of women in the town of Yjutlan, just outside Oaxaca. The box is constructed from handmade paper by artisans at the Taller Arte Papel Oaxaca.
