L IS FOR...

LANE (SOUVANNALITH)

Sewing for Asiatica for more than 30 years, best cook (see Cooking with Lane); good humored, excellent grandmother, devoted wife and employee.

LONGEVITY

A word often applied to Asiatica clothing.  The best and worst aspect of our marketing ideas.  After 30 or more years our best advice is remove the shoulder pads and you will have many more years of wear.

LINEN

Kimono - No. 70
Kimono - No. 68
Kimono - No. 13Kimonos

A wonderful natural material.  We have an extraordinary collection of linen (or other bast fibers) kimono which are worn in Japan in the summertime. The much missed Solbiati linen crepe was one of the wonders of the world.

LIBRARY

A necessity. Asiatica has a wonderful one with books on Japanese textiles, fashion, architecture, ceramics, lacquer, gardens and flower-arranging, cooking and anything else that interests us.

LININGS

Another step in making a beautiful article of clothing. Sometimes they match and even better when they don't.

LACQUER

A sticky sap which dries in moist places.  Very difficult to use, can cover wood or even silk. A special love of Asiatica's, but difficult to use and easy to admire.

LOTUS

One of the world's most beautiful plants.  Both leaves and flowers are beautiful. grown in muddy pots and ponds. buddhist symbol of purity rising from mud. The roots are edible and delicious.
