A FOR ASIATICA.

How to reminisce publicly about 50 years of Asiatica? How about alphabetically for the next 26 weeks?

Asiatica—What does it mean?

We should begin with A for Asiatica.  What does it mean to those who have had no Latin?

The Asiatica Archive

A stash (archive) of all our precious vintage Japanese fabrics.

ANTIQUES
We began as Antique dealers, selling Chinese and Japanese furniture, mingei and functional objects like ceramics, baskets and textiles. We still have many antiques.

ARCHITECTURE

The Architecture of our retail spaces (we had three of them) has been important to us.
Westport Space (First Space)

The first space was built and designed by me and my husband over a 6 month period at the end of 1976 and beginning of 1977.

Country Club Plaza Space (Second Space)

The second space was in the Country Club Plaza space designed by the late wonderful Roger Kraft.

Westwood Space (Current Space)

The current space was designed and built by the sorely missed Fred Myers.

"A" PEOPLE...

Amy Katoh, whose Blue and White shop sold me the first shirts of re-cycled cotton and silk antique Japanese textiles and Alice Trillin who was a very influential early fan.

ANGELA
Where would we be without Angela, who has been making all our and your patterns for decades (see journal.) She is one of our ever-faithful long-term crew members with out whom you would all be naked!

ALTERATIONS

Alterations have always been included in the price of our clothing when first purchased.  No nickel and diming here.

AVEC

My very favorite restaurant – discovered long ago at an early Chicago trunkshow— is Avec now with 2 locations, both delicious. We held our 40th Anniversary party there.
