Antique Kimono
We have been purchasing fine and rare vintage kimono for over 50 years. While we have recycled many to make our clothing, these have been saved for their intact beauty. Most were made within the past century and represent a variety
of techniques (many are skates and tie-dyes) and materials— mostly cotton, linen and silk. Unusual and inventive graphic patterns and imaginative use of ornamental motifs specially appeal to us.
They can be worn (remember that hey have been made for Japanese wearers who tend to have a smaller frame than Americans) or they can be displayed. Kimono we have collected have entered museum collections (Los Angeles County Museum, Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, and the Metropolitan Museum) and are also owned by several private textile collectors.
